The first step beyond the boundary, was a great success for IOSA .
Four members of IOSA spent almost two days in teaching Optics to the young wards of various school in Puerto de Rosario, Fuerteventura. The event had a total attendance of about 175 people most of which were school going kids between 8 to 10 years of age. This joint venture with CiudadCiencia, was aimed at delivering some salient features of vision, optics and light.
Following a short presentation, five workshops: Optical communications; Ray tracing; Color and Vision; Laser puzzle; Hologram and magic with light; were conducted, where the young participants were the main protogonists. Combination of a perfect infrastructure, enthusiastic participants and the hands-on experience made the workshops an instant hit. We also had a DIY session on Kaleidoscopes. The materials for making the kaleidoscopes along with a detailed instruction were given to the kids, who excitedly made their own kaleidoscopes. Adding to the excitement was a short video coverage by a local channel, making the members celbrities overnight :).
Overall, Fuerteventura was afruitful experience both inside and outside the session rooms. IOSA is looking forward to its next venture in Mahon, Menorca and more such effective collaborations in future.
